A "companion" (also called a pet) is a creature that your character has captured or sometimes created. Characters in Solaris RPG can only have a companion from currently listed creatures of Solaris RPG. Characters may only have one active companion at a time, no exceptions.
How do I get a companion?
You can gain a companion either through a Role-Playing or Training Session. In a Role-Playing Session, a Staff member will have to play the companion; you can ask a Staff member to play a certain type of creature that you wish to capture, but do not badger anyone to do it if he is unwilling or incapable. In a Training Session, you simply have to explain you obtaining it. It is usually a good idea to double-check with a Staff member before you write up this session to make sure that it’ll make sense for your character to get the companion.
Things to remember...
Characters must catch or create their companion on their own. If a character needed help from someone else, it is unlikely they would be able to control it on their own.
Companions do not gain experience like characters do; instead they are always considered to be the level of its master. When a companion participates in a session, its word count is considered that of the master’s when the Staff determines experience gains. The companion’s stats are determined by taking its level multiplied by the "Base Vitals" located on its species page in the Creature Guide, just like any other creature.
Companions may not use equipment or items, including runes and potions.
Companions may have three unique abilities, much like characters have. Just like characters, companion abilities must be approved by a staff member. Your companion may learn any or all of his abilities at the time he is obtained or may be added as the character and his creature gain power.
Creatures tagged as unavailable cannot be taken as pets or companions. Creatures tagged as Legendary can only be obtained during an RP session played by a staff member. This makes them more exclusive.
What can a companion do for me?
Basically, a companion is used for an extra touch to your characters role playing, and that's really all it should be used for. Your character may use them in a battle to help in a fight, whether it be your own fight or another fight.
What happens if my companion dies?
If someone kills your companion it is gone unless you can manage to get a cleric to revive it or, if it is a Mechanoid, it must be repaired by Solaris Central Laboratories. Your character may not kill, absorb, fuse, (etc...) with your pet or anyone else's companion. Never ask to fuse, absorb, or even kill your own characters pet even if its on another of your own characters, any request on this matter will simply be ignored.
