Pan’magus are super-intellegent, purely mental beings, only existing as a magical form. This form is entirely non-physical, making it totally immune to any type of physical strike and preventing it from making any physical strike against another.
The magical form is very resistant to plasma energy. So much so, that it can be considered to be immune to all plasma damage. Also, it is very adaptive, being able to make itself equally practically immune to all elements that are naturally strong in its current location. The formless, magical bodies of the pan’magus can polymorph into practically any shape. It usually stays in the form of a floating, violet-colored orb with very contrasting spots in the shape of eyes colored anywhere from green, blue, or red, usually depending on its age or origins. It can meld its body into the form of any beast, keeping its violet color and its eyes, but they can not change into the form of a humanoid. A few pan’magus that were able to be inquired on the subject claim that they merely choose not to take such a for in their disgust for humanoid races’ vanity. This has never been verified. The shade of purple that the pan’magus exhibits is based on its power and wisdom. The deeper shades of violet are shown in stronger pan’magi, whereas the lighter shades are shown in weaker pan’magi. The most powerful of the pan’magi are of such a deep violet color that it is nigh-invisibly black. Some would not consider what the pan’magus do to be fighting but more along the lines of “playing with their food”. A pan’magus has the ability to rocket its own body as if it were a ball of magical energy at an opponent, vaporizing flesh and bone, emerging unscathed from the other side of its fallen opponent. However effective and gruesome as this is, the pan’magus will hardly ever resort to such an inferior attack. The pan’magus are much better known for their ability to read other peoples minds as well as the ability to cloud another’s senses and even replacing them with their choice of fictional visions and sounds. A popular tactic is for the pan’magus to search deep within its opponent’s mind and extract its greatest fear or greatest desire. Then, it will make its opponent believe it is either living its greatest nightmare or most desirable fantasy. This gives plenty of time for the pan’magus to flee or kill its hopeless opponent. Particularly malice pan’magus may choose to watch its opponent scream in terror at its greatest phobia for days before dying a very painful death due to thirst or exhaustion. A pan’magus usually will prefer the deepest, darkest cavern furthest from any other intelligent life. Some feel threatened by it and others despise other races out of feelings of superiority. This is not a requirement, though, and technically, they can be found in any area. Sometimes, a pan’magus will decorate its living space with intricate and functional runes and glyphs, housing powerful magical enchantments or magical traps. Of all the creatures that one would want to take as a pet, the pan’magus may be the hardest to obtain. It cannot be ensnared or captured by a magical shield. Most are far too intelligent and cunning to ever be tricked into servitude. There are really only two feasible ways to take a pan’magus as a pet: Not all pan’magus are sinister. Some may not despise the overzealous humanoid, and some may even befriend one. This is very rare, and even if it is friendly, there is a good chance that one would not be good enough friends to be able to receive permanent devotion from a pan’magus. This is the first solution. The only other known way is for a powerful mage to force the pan’magus to fuse itself to a physical object. Therefore, as long as the mage has possession of this object, the pan’magus will, though begrudgingly, follow the orders of its master. What exactly the mind behind the magic ball consists of is unknown. Some say that they are super-planer beings projecting their minds onto our plane for either pleasure or other reasons. Whatever the reason, the pan’magus do not have to reproduce. Unlike their (skeptically) distant cousins who do not mate because they show no emotions, pan’magus seem to only have to will themselves into existence. Pan’magus do exhibit emotions and can become emotionally attached to another pan’magus or other being, however it is probable that it would be unable to reproduce using conventional means. The pan’magus have no known weakness. They are able to put several opponents into comatose states and dissolve them with the makeup of their bodies. They are immune to all physical attacks and have such a resistance to all elements and energies that it seems practically useless to even believe you could stand a chance against a foe. Occasionally, a pan’magus will fuse itself with a surrounding object – liking its life to the object. Why they would do this is unknown. If a pan’magus has such an object, destroying it will, in-turn, banish the pan’magus. It is unknown if a pan’magus actually dies, so doing such an act may only make the pan’magus angrier if and when it returns. The pan’magus might be the most misunderstood and the most feared race in all of Solaris. Not many people have the pleasure of meeting one in the wild, and even few have the pleasure of telling anyone about the experience. This is because a pan’magus will rarely show itself, and when it does, it usually is not just to have a friendly chat. There are many legends about this race in many older Solarian cultures. One, in particular, a small tribe that used to live near the Dragons’ Den, several thousand years Pre-Flux, called these creatures Ultima Demons, worshiping and fearing them as gods. The pan’magus would appear to the villagers as terrible beasts and demand sacrifices. It is assumed that these people were wiped out by these creatures. The race can be referred to as “the pan’magus” or as a plural, “pan’magi”. |
